Nothing. That was what could have prepared me for the events, explanations, and expectations surrounding the man named Peace. I knew some high-level details of Peace’s life and death. But, Hobbs eloquently filled in the gaps on a dashed timeline that ultimately stopped way too soon.Nothing. That was my immediate reaction upon finishing this book. Sorrow for his mom and friends; anger for his inability to follow the expected trajectory; confusion for mankind to evolve to a state in which murder is an option. I simply did not know what to feel. But, this was a story that I wished was fiction because I desperately wanted Peace to succeed.Nothing. That was what remained in my emotional gas tank after turning the last page. It’s very easy to say that Peace deserved this. A Yalie has so many openings leading to prosperity. Why couldn’t Peace simply ride that wave, instead of fighting the losing battle against a mighty current? His milieu, as magnificently painted by Hobbs, contains those answers. That’s why this recounting of Peace’s life is definitely worth the exploration.Something.
