I read the first volume and was really happy to see that there was a sequel. I have to say, these two are what couples should strive to be. They communicate, they respect each others' boundaries, and they also help each other come out of their shells in a non-toxic way in that they really do try to understand where the other one is coming from.There are a few misunderstandings here and there but they fit into the story and really help shape the relationship between the characters. As the reader, you're introduced more to the people that Harij interacts with and we also get to see more of Tien and how he relates to Rose.The one thing that I love is that Rose is true to herself (and I just love what happens near the end of the story--I could not stop laughing and give her props for following through with getting back at a particular close friend of Harij's). Yes, I will agree with other reviews that I've read, that Rose is shy BUT she begins to open up throughout the story in a healthy and realistic way considering that she was raised to be a recluse and is also on the outskirts of society for cultural and political reasons (she states many times throughout both volumes that witches are not beholden to any religion or kingdom and operate outside of that). And I cannot emphasize this enough: she is true to herself. She never makes a concession to Harij out of fear or out of him manipulating the situation but after she herself feels ready to commit to a choice or action. And Harij, instead of blatantly manipulating her feelings or forcing her to do something, always meets her where she's at and seeks to understand and support her decision. I won't go into details because I don't want to ruin anything but this is one of the first stories I have read in a long time that is a healthy, non-toxic display of a relationship between romantic partners.Give it a chance. I found myself grinning and laughing out loud as I was reading this story and wish that there would be more volumes exploring more between these two absolutely loveable characters.
